Finology Software plus ChatGPT: federal student loan math, now in ChatGPT

Updated on October 4, 2026 Published October 4, 2026

Finology Software is now in ChatGPT. It is listed in the ChatGPT plugin directory, and a federal student loan question asked in ChatGPT is answered by the same engine that produces client reports inside our platform, with the rules and the date that produced each figure.

It is the same engine that already runs inside Claude. Advisors use both, so the answers should not depend on which assistant is open.

Two questions in ChatGPT, answered by the Finology Software engine. Shown at 3x speed.

Here is what it does.

Ask it anything, with a free login

Find Finology Software in the ChatGPT plugin directory, or type @Finology Software at the start of a message. Three tools work with a free Finology Software login (no card). A free login answers five questions in total, with no daily limit:

  • Compare every federal repayment plan a loan can actually elect, with monthly payment, future cost, forgiveness timing, and the estimated tax on any forgiven balance. Plans the borrower cannot elect are listed with the rule that excludes them.
  • Estimate a RAP monthly payment from income, filing status, and household size.
  • Compare filing jointly against filing separately on the loan side, with a plain statement of what that comparison does not model.

In our own testing in ChatGPT, a single borrower earning $70,960 with two children came back at $313.93 a month under RAP, with the income, household size, and rule date used to get there.

Connect your own client book

If you subscribe to Finology Software, you can ask about your clients and ChatGPT will offer to link your Finology login. Once linked, it can list your clients (as initials, if your firm withholds names), run a projection on a client’s imported federal loan file (including what the client has already paid, read from that file), and chart each plan’s balance year by year. It sees your own clients and nothing else, and every tool is read only.

Why the rules matter more than the math

Since July 1, 2026, the plan lineup changed. RAP arrived, the tiered Standard plan arrived, SAVE ended, and PAYE closed to new enrollment. Most of the questions advisors get now are eligibility questions: which plans a particular loan can elect this year, and what that choice does to forgiveness and to the tax bill at the end. A general purpose assistant is good at arithmetic. Keeping those rules current is the part we do full time, and that is what this hands to ChatGPT.

What it does not do

It does not give advice. It models outcomes and shows the assumptions behind them, and the recommendation stays with the advisor. Figures are estimates for education, and the tax on forgiven balances is estimated at today’s brackets.

It does not guess, either. If an input is missing it asks for it, and where a plan is unavailable it names the rule rather than producing a number that looks reasonable and is not.

Each answer is recorded on our side so its accuracy can be audited later. No IP address is stored for answers served through ChatGPT. Our privacy policy has the details.

Try it on a real question

The same tools also work in Claude. In ChatGPT, ask something you were going to work out by hand anyway. A married couple deciding how to file. A client who was on SAVE and does not know what happens next. A Parent PLUS borrower who wants an income driven plan.

If the answer is useful, the same engine runs the full planner, client reports, and loan file import at Finology Software.
