Finology Software now works inside Claude
Claude can now do federal student loan math with the Finology Software engine. Our connector is live in the Claude directory, so the same calculator that produces client reports inside our platform answers directly in Claude, returned with the rules that produced it.
There are two ways to use it, and they are meant for different moments.
What this adds to Claude for Financial Advisors
Claude for Financial Advisors already connects the systems a practice runs on. BlackRock brings portfolio construction, model portfolios and institutional analytics through Advisor Center. Vanguard brings its model portfolios and advisor investment solutions. Charles Schwab connects Schwab Advisor Services custodial data. Addepar, Orion, Black Diamond and Envestnet cover portfolio and reporting, Redtail, Wealthbox and Salesforce the CRM side, MoneyGuide the plan, Morningstar and S&P Global and FactSet and LSEG the market data, Docusign the signature.
Finology Software adds the liability side. Federal student loans are their own specialty: nine repayment plans with their own eligibility rules, a forgiveness clock that runs on payment counts rather than balances, and a tax event at the end of it. The rules moved three times in 2026 alone.
That is the piece we maintain full time, and it is now available in the same Claude your other tools already live in.
Who this is for
Two kinds of advisor, and the answer is different for each.
If you have one client with student loans, you have probably never had a reason to buy planning software for a question that comes up twice a year. So it got done in a spreadsheet, or estimated. The free connector is built for exactly that: ask it, get an answer you can defend to the client, move on. No subscription and no card: a free Finology Software login is all it takes.
If student loan planning is a core part of your practice, the advisor connector is the larger change. It puts your own book inside Claude. Ask which of your clients sit on a plan that is ending. Run a projection for one of them straight from their imported loan file. Compare every plan they can still elect, side by side. The work you do in the app, in the place you are already asking questions.
Four tools, a free login
The open connector needs a free Finology Software login: no card and no API key. It is listed in the Claude connector directory:
Finology Software: Federal Student Loan Engine
Open that page in Claude and connect it in one click. If you would rather add it by hand, the server URL is:
https://mcp.finology.tech/free
Four tools come with it:
- Compare every federal repayment plan a loan can actually elect, with monthly payment, lifetime cost, forgiveness timing, and the estimated tax on any forgiven balance. Plans the borrower cannot elect are listed with the rule that excludes them, so the comparison is honest about what is off the table.
- Estimate a RAP monthly payment from income, filing status, and household size.
- Compare filing jointly against filing separately on the loan side, including a plain statement of what that comparison does not model.
- Ask what the service covers, so Claude can tell you the limits before you rely on a number.
Every figure is stamped with the rule version and the date in effect, and every tool is read only. Each answer is recorded on our side so its accuracy can be audited later; our privacy policy has the details.
A free login answers five questions in total, with no daily limit. That is enough to put a real client situation through it and see whether the numbers hold up against what you already know.
Advisors who use it in client work move to a subscription, and that is where the rest of the job lives: the loan file import, clients and scenarios that persist, the branded report, and the payment-count tracking that carries across recertification. That is $99 per advisor per month, or $89 a month billed annually, with unlimited active clients. The free rung is a calculator. The subscription is a practice.
You do not learn a syntax. You ask in the words you would use with a colleague, and Claude picks the tool:
- “My client owes $180,000 in Direct loans at 6.8%, earns $95,000, files single. Compare her federal options.”
- “Same client, but she works at a nonprofit hospital. Does that change the answer?”
- “They are married, $140,000 combined income. Is filing separately worth it on the loan side?”
The reply names the plans she can actually elect, the ones she cannot and why, and what each costs over its life.
Connect your own client book
If you already subscribe to Finology Software, a second connector signs in with your Finology login and works on your real clients. It lists your client book and runs the full plan comparison against a specific client’s imported loan file. That is the one to use when you are preparing for a meeting rather than answering a question in the abstract.
It uses the same engine as the free tools. The difference is whose loans it is looking at.
One plan, one price
There are no feature tiers to compare. Every subscriber gets the whole product at $99 per advisor per month, or $89 a month billed annually.
What a seat includes:
- Unlimited active clients. No per-client, per-import or per-report fees.
- RAP and every other federal repayment plan, with the eligibility rules that decide which ones a borrower can actually elect.
- IDR and PSLF modeling and tracking, including payment counts carried across recertification.
- Federal loan file import, loan by loan, with a bulk parser for a whole book.
- Private and consumer debt modelled alongside the federal picture.
- Side-by-side scenario comparisons that save with the client.
- Client-ready PDF reports, white-labelled with your firm’s branding.
- Support by email and in-app chat. No required calls.
Existing subscriptions keep the rate they started on.
Building this into your own software rather than using it in Claude? The same engine is a public API and a keyed MCP server, with a free sandbox key and self-serve tiers from $49 a month. That is its own piece: Your AI Can Now Call a Verified Student-Loan Engine, or go straight to finology.tech/agents.
Why this exists
Since July 1, 2026, the repayment plan is usually the only thing that changes a borrower’s number, and the lineup itself changed. RAP arrived, the tiered Standard plan arrived, SAVE ended, PAYE closed to new enrollment. The old rules of thumb stopped working, and the questions advisors get are not arithmetic questions. They are eligibility questions with six figure consequences.
The answer often inverts on one fact. Same borrower, same balance, same income: with a qualifying public service employer their repayment can cost around $41,000, and without one around $207,000, of which roughly $85,000 is tax on the forgiven balance. A calculator that never asks where someone works cannot see that difference.
General purpose AI is genuinely good at arithmetic. Student loan planning is mostly not arithmetic. It is knowing which of nine plans a particular loan type can elect this year, what a consolidation does to a payment count, and when forgiveness becomes a tax event. That is the part we maintain full time, and that is what this connector hands to Claude.
Getting it into your practice
The free connector is yours to add directly. You open Claude, add it, and ask a question, the same way you would add any other connector you already use.
That lets you evaluate it in the order that actually makes sense. Try the engine on a real client question first, in your own words, and see whether the answer holds up against what you already know. Decide afterwards whether the version that works on your own book belongs in the practice.
That version is the advisor connector. It signs in with your Finology Software login, and that is what brings your own clients into reach.
What your compliance team will want to know
The short version, ready to forward.
- The free connector stores no client data. Claude asks you to sign in with your free Finology Software login the first time. It computes from the figures in the question and creates no client record.
- Every tool is read only. All four free tools and all six advisor tools are declared read-only and non-destructive. Nothing in a Finology Software account can be created, changed or deleted through the connector.
- The advisor connector uses OAuth against your existing Finology Software login. The sign-in happens on our identity server. Anthropic does not receive your password.
- It is listed in Anthropic’s connector directory as a Community connector, which means it was screened against their directory policy before listing. Anthropic does not operate our servers, and we do not operate theirs.
- Figures are for education. The tax on forgiven balances is an estimate at today’s brackets. The connector does not give investment or financial advice, and the recommendation stays with the advisor.
Privacy policy and API terms.
What it will not do
It does not give advice. It models outcomes and shows the assumptions behind them, and the recommendation stays with the advisor. Figures are for education. The tax on forgiven balances is an estimate at today’s brackets, and brackets move.
It also will not guess. Where a plan is unavailable it says so and names the rule, rather than producing a number that looks reasonable and is not.
Try it on a real question
Add the connector from the Claude directory and ask Claude something you were going to have to work out by hand anyway. A Parent PLUS borrower who wants an income driven plan. A married couple deciding how to file. A client who was on SAVE and does not know what happens next.
If the answer is useful, the same engine runs the full planner, the client reports, and the loan file import at Finology Software.

Setup questions
Which Claude do I need?
Regular Claude on any plan: Free, Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise. You do not need Claude for Financial Advisors. The Free plan allows one custom connector.
How do I connect my client book?
In Claude on the web or desktop, open Customize, then Connectors, click +, choose Add custom connector, paste https://mcp.finology.tech/mcp and sign in with your Finology Software login. On Team or Enterprise, an owner adds it first under Organization settings > Connectors.
Do I upload my reports?
No. Once you are signed in, Claude reads your clients’ loans, income and household from your Finology Software account.
Does Claude decide what is best for my client?
It runs the same plan comparison as the planner and explains the numbers and the rules behind them. The recommendation is yours.
What about client privacy?
Claude only reads what you ask about, and you can have it use initials instead of client names.
Does it cost extra?
No. It is included in your subscription. Without one, a free login answers 5 questions in total, with no daily limit.
Show every client the plan that saves them the most
Every number sourced, every path compared. Model RAP, the new Standard, IBR, PAYE, ICR and PSLF side by side.
